Alfred Fischer Hall remains emergency accommodation for the time being

The Alfred Fischer Hall in Heessen will remain an emergency shelter for refugees until at least September 2025. This brings financial benefits for the city of Hamm: it receives rent from the district government and has to accommodate fewer refugees elsewhere.

Compared to the larger central accommodation facility (ZUE) on Alter Uentroper Weg, which accommodates 830 people, the Alfred-Fischer-Halle offers space for up to 500 people. There are currently 326 refugees living there, while 622 people are accommodated in the ZUE on Alter Uentroper Weg.

The hall has served as refugee accommodation since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and has been used as emergency accommodation since January 2023. Although it is not an official ZUE, it fulfills a similar purpose.

Due to the change of use, the Hammer Sports Gala 2024 in the Alfred Fischer Hall was canceled.
